AI agents are autonomous or semi-autonomous AI systems designed to perform specific tasks or achieve particular goals. They enable evolution of AI’s ability from a simple query-response model (Chatbot) to more complex, action-oriented AI assistants.

Key aspects of AI agents include:

  • Task-oriented: They are designed to accomplish specific objectives or process flows, requiring end to end execution ability.
  • Third party interaction: They can connect to and utilise various third party tools and APIs, by leveraging function calling capabilities.
  • Multi-step reasoning: They break down complex tasks into smaller, manageable steps, using techniques like chain-of-thought reasoning.

They are being used in various applications, from virtual assistants and chatbots to more sophisticated systems for research, analysis, and decision-making support.
